The USA Men's Hockey Team won again on Wednesday beating Switzerland 2-0. They already beat the host team Canada last weekend earning a first round bye. Now Team USA is just two wins away from bringing home another Gold Medal.
After beating Canada on Sunday, it looked like there might be a repeat of the 1980 "Miracle on Ice," when an outmatched USA team beat the favored Soviet Union who, at the time, was considered the best team in the world. Both Russia and USA had first round byes but Russia lost on Wednesday to Canada 7-3. So, it now looks like the road to gold leads back to the Canadian team who is again the favorite after beating Russia.
What most people don't realize about the Miracle on Ice of 1980 is that Team USA did not win the Gold Medal after beating the Soviet Union. They also had to beat a very good Finland team. If Team USA was to win Gold this year, it would be the first time since beating Finland for the Gold in 1980. In fact, USA has only won one other medal (Silver in 2002 Winter Olympics) in Hockey.
